It works by blocking estrogen receptors in the hypothalamus, which helps to stimulate the production of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) by the ovaries. This leads to an increase in the production of oestrogen, a hormone that stimulates ovulation, and may also increase testosterone levels in men.
